Google's Pixelbook Go is a MacBook-esque Chrome OS laptop

Google's Pixelbook Go is a MacBook-esque Chrome OS laptop”

But which of these affordable flagships is right for you?

While Google didn't announce an actual release date up on stage or during the announcement, we learned that the Pixelbook Go will be released around October 28th.

Plus, the Pixelbook Go benefits from an improved microphone array that's better at capturing speech than that of its predecessor. It's really going to depend on your use-case, as to whether this Pixelbook Go is the one to get, for your needs.

Google recently unveiled its new Pixelbook Go, and it's fair to say that a lot of people are a bit disappointed with this entry. At launch, the Pixelbook Go will come in two colors: "just black" and "not pink". The bottom of the laptop has a ribbed texture that looks like it might prevent it from falling off of your lap.

The Pixelbook Go weighs less than 900 grams and it's just 13.3mm thin, making it quite easy to carry it around the town.

What do you mean you've seen it already?

This is a 13.3-inch laptop including a touchscreen starting at Full HD resolution that can go as sharp as 4K. We'd been hoping for a real update to the Pixelbook this year, but there is no Pixelbook 2.

The main thing I noticed about the Go's screen was the insane amount of glare and lack of real brightness. MacBook Air costs twice more, for comparison. There's also an upgraded keyboard on the laptop that Google calls it Hush Keys. The keyboard has a separate button for an instant start the Google Assistant. If you can go past this detail, then the new Pixelbook Go is for you.

Other specs include either an m3, Core i5 or Core i7 processor paired with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 64, 128 or 256GB of storage. Both devices rely on an 8th Generation m3 processor from Intel. It must be noted that these are the Y-series versions of those chips so temper your expectations accordingly. They offer 12 hours of battery life, up to 16 GB of RAM and a pretty decent 256 gigs of storage.

Sherry Lin, a product manager Pixel, said Google tested adding 5G network technology but found that it was "just does not work very well if the trees and buildings got in the way". That's enough to get you through a day, though lower than the 12 hours that the laptop is rated for. Janfosky said that when planning the Pixelbook Go the company was focused on portability and price and thus opted to ax some features that increase price (including the hinge and stylus support). Likewise, you can choose from either a 64GB, 128GB or 256GB SSD for your storage needs. The base model starts at $649. If you want double the RAM (16GB) and double the storage (128GB), that will cost you $999.

But if you're looking for more power, here's a quick breakdown of all the available variants for preorder today. Still, Google's own Pixelbook is the best of the best, and now it's better, thinner, lighter, faster, and more affordable.
