Battle Pass In, Loot Boxes Out in Call of Duty - IGN Now

Battle Pass In, Loot Boxes Out in Call of Duty - IGN Now”

Call of Duty has used the (typically $50) "season pass" concept for ages, and despite mixing it up a bit a year ago, they're completely overhauling the concept for 2019's Modern Warfare.

Regardless of how the Pass shapes up in the end, the system will undoubtedly come as a breath of fresh air for many players who have grown exhausted of loot boxes.

Still, that's only one possibility, and it could end up resembling Apex Legend's system instead, which includes purely-cosmetic rewards.

"All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game" and earning COD Points, Activision says. Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season. Cosmetics will also be available through an in-game store. Firstly, all of the gameplay advantage items can be unlocked by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will release next week on October 25, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

New maps and game modes introduced after the launch of Modern Warfare will be free for all players, Activision said, and go live simultaneously on all platforms.

Each Battle Pass will have free and premium streams, with players able to see all of the content they are earning or buying. Functional attachments for base weapons can be unlocked through gameplay as well just like in the game's Beta. The Battle Pass will work much like it does in other games, bringing in new content in seasonal rotations.

"First and foremost, we are all focused on making the Day One experience awesome".

Infinity Wart art director Joel Emslie said earlier this week that the studio is not working on a supply drop or loot box system so the announcement isn't entirely surprising, but even so it's nice to have it confirmed, in writing, by Activision.

Infinity Ward says "we are committed to delivering a fair system guided by the principles we've outlined here, and will continue to monitor feedback and player engagement to help us achieve that goal".

Do you believe that we won't see Supply Drops at all in Modern Warfare, or will Activision introduce it down the line after a few months have passed?
