SpaceX seeks approval to put 30,000 additional Starlink satellites

SpaceX seeks approval to put 30,000 additional Starlink satellites”

After submitting its request, SpaceX will now have seven years to launch at least one satellite with the intended frequencies.

Until now, SpaceX's long-term goal was to create a constellation of 12,000 satellites at altitudes ranging from 328 km to 580 km (200 to 360 mi) - based on what the FCC has approved so far.

SpaceX is asking permission to launch another 30,000 satellite for its internet grid, the Starlink constellation. Deployment began in earnest back in May with the launch of the first sixty Starlink satellites, with plans to launch an additional 1,584 by 2024 and 2,200 by 2027.

This will bring the total number of satellites in Starlink upto 42,000. But, SpaceX has not mentioned when it plans to launch the new satellites. SpaceX will be required to disclose more details about its constellation when applying with the FCC for access to the USA market to offer broadband services, like it did with the 12,000-satellite constellation it began launching in May. The first batch of Starlink satellites make it to space. This new lot would add 30,000 to the network called Starlink.

The company has submitted paperwork in recent weeks for the additional satellites.

Several other broadband-beaming satellite constellations have either launched or are in the works, including London's OneWeb, which is backed by Japan's SoftBank Group Corp. and British billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Group. The Us Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the ITU already gave SpaceX the green light for the 12,000 Starlink satellites. Essentially, they are responsible for allocating portions of the global radio spectrum and satellite orbits to prevent interference and ensure communication networks are able to interconnect. However, he said that the company "takes measures to take the total capacity and the datadensiteit of the Starlink network has to develop in order to meet the anticipated growth needs of the consumer".

Aerospace Corporation's Roger Thompson stated that while that area of space is cleanest, this location is also the one where we tend to fly crewed spacecraft, and this also includes the ISS.

The report said SpaceX is developing Starship and the Super Heavy rocket as a reusable transportation platform to transport astronauts and cargo to the lunar surface, Earth orbit and Mars. SpaceX has said that an on-ground operator missed a message from the U.S. Air Force showing that the chance of a collision had increased, and that it is implementing "corrective actions". Other satellite operators are expected to design their satellites to avoid that spectrum range.

SpaceX wants spectrum access for almost four times as many satellites as originally planned for its high-speed internet constellation, the company and a United Nations agency confirmed Wednesday.
