Buddy Hield, Kings $20M apart in contract extension talks

Buddy Hield, Kings $20M apart in contract extension talks”

Hield wants to get paid, with Yahoo Sports reporting the Kings have offered four years and $90 million, $20 million short of what Hield would want in an extension, according to the report.

NEGOTIATIONS continue between Buddy Hield and the Sacramento Kings with just days remaining for the parties to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

The reported divide between the two sides is large, although not insurmountable.

The two sides have until October 21 to come to an agreement on an extension. He has shot 37.5 percent from three-point range in his two seasons with the Kings. While speaking with the media after Sacramento's exhibition win over Melbourne United, Hield unloaded on the team and hinted that he will demand a trade if they don't up their offer significantly.

Once the qualifying offer is extended, the Kings would have the right to match any offer for the 26-year-old guard. Sacramento just gave $85 million to X factor forward Harrison Barnes and will likely need to tender a max offer to Fox as soon ashebecomes extension-eligible this July; they'll also need to open up Vivek Ranadivé's checkbook again when Bagley becomes eligible in 2021.

"I don't know if things are going to get done", Hield said while standing in front of his locker with more than a dozen reporters gathered around and three team staffers hovering nearby.

The price points matter, though, because Vlade Divac and Co. aren't doing these deals in a vacuum. "I've gone through it as a player and you overanalyze".

After a career year in Sacramento last season, Hield is certainly deserving of a new contract, but the Kings appear to be wrapped up in working out a way to keep the core of their team together.
