Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl Rip Flyers Apart

Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl Rip Flyers Apart”

The Flyers pumped a franchise record 25 shots in the third period and would score two late goals from Lindblom and Voracek to make it interesting, but it wasn't enough as Koskinen stood tall between the pipes. "That's where the game turned a little bit". But a 2-2-1 record after five games would be far from devastating. They obviously can't have a repeat performance in Edmonton, as this Oilers team will surely take better advantage of the Flyers mishaps than Calgary did.

Flyers netminder Carter Hart was making his first-career start in his hometown, and it was a tough night for the Sherwood Park, Alta product, who allowed four goals on 14 shots, and was pulled with 5:38 left in the second period, putting a sour note on his homecoming. Leon Draisaitl had three points and was a key factor as well. "You've got to come up with a couple of saves to keep your team in the game and I didn't do that". McDavid picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and passed across for Draisaitl to bury the chance.

The loss extends Philly's losing streak to three games and marks the end of a road trip that saw the team play a trio of games in five days.

The Flyers pressed hard for an equalizer in the second period, but Koskinen came up with a plethora of big saves.

"He was the first second and third star, he was the only reason we won", said Oilers head coach Dave Tippett.

Two seasons ago, a young Oilers team led by Connor McDavid stormed into the playoffs and made a deep run, prompting many to believe that they would take another big step forward previous year. And at 16:26, during a power play, McDavid found Draisaitl behind the net, who then tucked it in past Hart to put the Oilers up 5-1. The first two were more than stoppable, the third was McDavid being the best player in the world and the fourth was a power play tally.

The Flyers generated good puck movement, but couldn't get shots through on their first power play. It's early in the season still, but the Edmonton Oilers are having themselves an excellent start to the year, setting the tone at home by going unbeaten. There's no denying that the 12-year National Hockey League veteran is inconsistent from time to time, but he has yet to dominate, let alone register a point in a game this season.

This part of the games can be a flash in the pan for the Oilers by the time the season ends, but let's enjoy the time we have with this exciting, leading Edmonton team. The Oilers were 2 for 2 with the man advantage and are 10 for 22 in seven games.

McDavid's first two five-point games came against the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 2, 2016, and against the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 5, 2018. The team had a moment of silence and a video tribute to Green, who passed away October 8 after a long illness at 79.
