Fired Madison guard gets job offer with Boys & Girls Club

Fired Madison guard gets job offer with Boys & Girls Club”

A union representing Mr Anderson filed a grievance against the district on Thursday, calling for him to be reinstated and receive back-pay.

The security guard recounted that he merely responded verbally to the situation and said things such as "don't call me that, don't call me the n-word, and don't call me n****r."

In a tweet Friday, the pop singer said she'll cover the cost of any lawsuit Marlon Anderson might file over being fired for repeating a racial slur while telling a student to stop using the word.

"I have a radio too, so I could hear myself saying, 'Don't call me that word, '" he said.

Marlon Anderson said a disruptive student at Madison West High School used the racist term on October 9. Anderson was sacked Wednesday.

During his time at East and West high schools, Anderson said he's been called the slur by students "many times", and that it has resulted in "restorative conversations" in which he explains the history, context and meaning of the slur.

Anderson had been working at the school district for 11 years.

"We are working to make our school climates the best they can be for all students and staff", said Gloria Reyes, president of the Madison Board of Education in a statement.

Madison schools have a zero-tolerance policy on racial slurs and fired Anderson.

"This is an incredibly hard situation, and we acknowledge the emotion, harm, and complexity involved", School Board President Gloria Reyes said. The incident involves a staff member using a racial slur with students.

This year, decisions around how to respond when a racial slur is used in school settings have been made based on practices established last year when the district took a strong stance in response to incidences of the use of racial slurs - that racial slurs will not be tolerated when said by anyone in any school setting no matter what the circumstances, in an effort to unequivocally protect students from harm, no matter the intent. "Many people in our community and our district are grappling with that complexity, and we will continue to do so as we go forward".

He wants the district to review that policy. All of those employees were either fired or resigned.
