Five-star point guard Devin Askew picks Kentucky

Five-star point guard Devin Askew picks Kentucky”

Earlier this month during his official visit to Kentucky, Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, California) point guard Devin Askew said the highlight was watching Wildcats coach John Calipari operate in practice; demanding greatness from every player on the floor from the walk-on to the projected National Basketball Association lottery pick. Now ranked No. 10 overall according to 247sportsComposite, the 6'3 playmaker is the latest high school sensation to play for head coach John Calipari.

There's speculation that a move to 2020 will be made at some point and Askew's father told Evan Daniels on Wednesday they will look into a reclassification after the high school basketball season.

The 6-foot-3 point guard out of California is ranked 10th overall in the Class of 2021, but could ultimately reclassify to 2020. That would likely the number one recruiting class in the country now for 2020.

"I chose Kentucky because I feel like coach [John Calipari] and all the assistant coaches have my best interest and will help me get to my goals", Askew said during his announcement on ESPN. Just one extra course would be needed in order to qualify which would give the Wildcats the playmaking agent that it has been searching for in recent months. If that happens, that changes things for not only Kentucky but also other talented recruits.

For what it is worth, Devin Askew is the sort of five-star who projects as a kid who will make an impact fight off the bat.
