GOP Rep. Who Wouldn't Rule Out Impeaching Trump Announces Retirement”

Speaking Thursday at a news conference, Mulvaney essentially acknowledged a quid pro quo with Ukraine that Trump has long denied, saying USA aid was withheld from Kyiv to push for an investigation of the Democratic National Committee and the 2016 election. "But that's it - and that's why we held up the money".

The Latin phrase "quid pro quo" is all over the news right now, but what is its meaning? He called Mulvaney's acknowledgment about withholding Ukraine aid "troubling", saying it is "not a good thing" to do that in connection "with threatening foreign leaders". The featured image showed a giant peach crushing the president.

"I'm not going to say anything about that until all the facts are in", he said.

Announcing his retirement, he said: "I've done what I came to do".

The house speaker's sentiment did not seem to sit well with many social media users who criticised both her statement about the role of the voters and her claim that the impeachment proceedings have got nothing to do with the upcoming presidential election.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., told reporters Thursday that he had not yet seen Mulvaney's comments.

Rooney, a former USA ambassador to the Vatican under President George W. Bush, told Fox News on Saturday he hoped more of his Republican colleagues would publicly express their concerns over the administration's conduct toward Ukraine.

This week's hours of back-to-back closed-door hearings from diplomats and former top aides appeared to be providing investigators with a remarkably consistent account of the run-up and aftermath of Trump's call with Ukraine President Volodymy Zelenskiy. He raised a red flag and said it was "crazy" to withhold the military aid for a political investigation. The Department of Justice is investigating the origins of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The Ukrainian president has said he didn't feel pressured on the call with Trump.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Thursday that Mulvaney's comments have made things "much worse" for the president.

"'It gets at the idea of a corrupt deal, ' Professor Briffault said". "There was no quid pro quo". "That is all very damning for the president of the United States".
