Halftime Box Score/Recap: Penn State 21, MI 7”

Penn State scored on its next possession, taking a 14-0 lead on Clifford's 2-yard dive into the end zone with 14:56 left in the second quarter.

The Wolverines trailed 21-7 at halftime and 28-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Penn State offense went stagnant in the second half and MI got back into it.

Zach Charbonnet brought the Wolverines with one score with a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, but the MI defense got bit on Penn State's ensuing possession.

Penn State then took over at its own 20-yard line, but U-M's defense stood tall and forced a three-and-out, highlighted by an impressive open-field tackle by junior safety Brad Hawkins on third down.

Penn State will head to East Lansing next week to take on Michigan State (4-3).

It was so loud MI called a timeout before its first snap.

While Michigan punted twice - once after crossing midfield - and gave up the ball on downs at the Nittany Lions 36 in the first quarter, Penn State gashed the Michigan defense with two big plays and a touchdown. They drove to a 4th and goal situation with just over two minutes left, and quarterback Shea Patterson, under heavy pressure, looked to Bell in the end zone.

It marked a long crawl back from a first half that looked like it was going the way of their 2017 trip to Penn State.

Still in need a first down, Penn State put the ball in the hands of Hamler to pick up a hard-fought first down. The score was set up by running back Ricky Slade's 44-yard run to the MI 20-yard line. Clifford threw his second touchdown pass of the half, 25 yards to Hamler, five plays later.

Brent Pry's defense continued to dominate in the second quarter, as Tariq Castro-Fields intercepted a screen pass and Penn State took over in MI territory. Penn State's lead shrunk to 21-14, as it only had a total of 16 yards of offense in the third quarter.

Recent history has seen Penn State fail to finish off a game despite carrying a double-digit lead int he fourth quarter, but Saturday night was a different story for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State's only score in the second half was quarterback Sean Clifford's 53-yard pass to K.J. Hamler with 13:14 left in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverines' offense went three-and-out on its second drive, however, and punted at 8:18 of the first quarter. MI challenged the spot, but the call stood on the field.
