Haringey Players Walk Off The Pitch After Their Keeper Receives Racist Abuse”

The Haringey Borough manager who hauled his team off the pitch after racist abuse during an FA Cup qualifier says the incident is the latest in a long line of attacks against his black players.

Haringey's goalkeeper Valery Douglas Pajetat said afterwards that he was spat at and the victim of racial abuse.

The incident came at the end of a week when racism within football was at the forefront of the conversation, with England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria twice stopped due to abuse from the stands.

"The penalty was taken and the Haringey manager marched straight on and withdrew his players as this was happening".

"The referee halted the game briefly, they scored the penalty, one of the players went to pick the ball out of the back of the net and Coby Rowe was racially abused".

The football anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out praised the "swift and decisive action" taken by Loizou and his players.

"I have not done it for any other reason than looking into my players' faces and seeing how distraught they were".

The campaign group Kick It Out said in a statement: "These reports of alleged racist abuse aimed at goalkeeper Valery Douglas Pajetat yet again means players are continuing to receive discriminatory abuse while doing their job".

Yeovil posted the following Tweets regarding their cup clash with Haringey this afternoon.

"Kick It Out has informed The FA and will support the club in identifying the offender (s) to ensure appropriate action is taken and strong punishment issued". As well as the team's black players facing abuse, he claims women working on the club's burger bar were left crying after lewd insults.

The match - contested for a place in the FA Cup first round proper - was paused for over 20 minutes as fans remained inside the stadium and players sat in the dressing room.

In a statement, Yeovil said: "We are aware that there are allegations that racist comments were made in the crowd and this allegation will be a key part of any investigation". About 35 minutes later, it was confirmed the match had officially been abandoned.

UEFA charged Bulgaria in the aftermath of Monday's match, referencing chants and Nazi salutes that were caught on camera.

"Sometimes it can get brushed off in lower leagues but everyone stands with you", he tweeted. Our country isn't ideal either'.
