Manchester United forward Greenwood extends contract to 2023

Manchester United forward Greenwood extends contract to 2023”

A bullish Solskjaer, who insists his 4/1 underdogs won't be satisfied with a draw against the league leaders, also promised that United's current slump will be sorted out quicker than the time since Liverpool were last league champions in 1990.

Greenwood became United's youngest ever starter in the Premier League era against Cardiff last season and has played an increased role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this campaign.

"We have a plan and we have made some decisions in the short term that we knew would harm us but in the long term would benefit us, and that's part of the plan".

Solskjaer has already ruled out goalkeeper David De Gea and midfielder Paul Pogba from the Liverpool clash due to injuries, but said defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw could be available. "He's on the way back and he's recovering".

"Having grown up as a Manchester United fan, playing for the first team is a real dream come true", Greenwood said. "I don't have any problem with that at all".

England Under-21 worldwide Greenwood is now committed to United until 2023, with the option of a further year's extension.

"Michael (Carrick), Kieran (McKenna), Martyn (Pert), Richard (Hartis), the coaching, the improvement is there to see for us but it's about results - start winning games, start scoring goals, we need to create more chances because at the back we've looked solid".

United have not won the league since 2012-13 and the struggling English giants are languishing in 14th position and 15 points adrift of Liverpool ahead of Sunday's showdown at Old Trafford. "We might have to wait a while but I'm sure it is not going to be 30 years before the next title". At this club we prefer them to take risks, because we know these players are good enough, but if you lack confidence you sometimes think twice instead of acting on instinct.
