Trump Drops Plan to Host G-7 at His Miami Doral Resort”

President Donald Trump on Saturday defended selecting one of his properties to host next year's G-7 Summit, stating he "thought I was doing something very good" for the United States and lamented the "Hostile Media & their Democrat Partners" over their fierce opposition to the move.

President Trump has been under criticism ever since acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney made the official announcement earlier this week.

"He is exploiting his office and making official USA government decisions for his personal financial gain", Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement following the Thursday announcement.

Trump said in the tweet that the reversal is based off backlash from the original decision and "irrational hostility".

Trump said his administration "will begin the search for another site, including the possibility of Camp David, immediately".

"The Constitution is clear: the President can not accept gifts or payments from foreign governments. It's the best place". "But, as usual, the Hostile Media & their Democrat Partners went insane!" he added.

The House of Representatives had been expected to vote next week on a resolution condemning the decision.

More news: Trump Resort Will No Longer Host G7 Summit

"I understand the folks who participated in it hated it and thought it was a miserable place to have the G-7", he said.

Trump had suggested using the Trump-owned property to host the leaders of most of the world's largest economies, and signed off on the plan, news outlets including ABC News reported on Thursday.

He also said using Doral "was millions of dollars cheaper" than other facilities and would lead to a "roughly 50% savings" - but the White House did not release any documents to explain that analysis.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) told reporters it was not appropriate for Trump to host the G-7 at his own property.

An hour before Trump canceled the Doral plan, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden issued a rebuke on Twitter. We were back in the dining room and I was going over it with a couple of our advance team.

The US last hosted the group of world leaders, then known as the G8 before Russian Federation was disinvited, in 2012.

Later on, Mulvaney, removed Camp David from the list because it was really bad to host a G-7 summit.
