Archaeologists open ancient coffins discovered in Egypt

Archaeologists open ancient coffins discovered in Egypt”

Egyptian authorities on Saturday revealed the contents of 30 ancient wooden coffins discovered in Luxor and yes, they include mummies.

Archaeologists identified 30 different manufacturing workshops there, along with an ancient pottery kiln from the 18th Dynasty.caption Ancient pottery in the Valley of the Monkeys. source Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities The coffins will be restored and displayed at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is due to open near the Giza pyramids next year.

The antiquities ministry officially unveiled the discovery made at Asasif, a necropolis on the west bank of the River Nile, against the backdrop of the Hatshepsut Temple.

The sarcophagi back into the 22nd Dynasty, based around 3,000 decades back from the 10th century BC.

The intricately carved and painted coffins, three thousand years old, were closed with mummies inside and were in 'a good condition of preservation, colours and complete inscriptions, ' the statement added.

The discovery presented on Saturday is another result of the excavations launched a year ago in the tomb located in the Valley of the Kings, archaeological works in which several other tombs have been found besides the original entry to tomb TT 28 where the 30 coffins were found.

The coffins were well preserved because they were so well hidden from tomb raiders, Waziri said.

Despite their age, black, green, red and yellow paintings of snakes, birds, lotus flowers and hieroglyphics that cover the coffins are still clearly visible. He said the coffins were "exceptionally painted and preserved".

Several high-level officials, including President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, have in recent weeks affirmed Egypt's stability following rare, small-scale protests in September that drew a heavy-handed response from security forces.

The discovery is the latest in a series of major finds of ancient relics that Egypt hopes will revive its tourism sector, which has been badly hit by political instability since the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

"I'm very happy we found this discovery with Egyptian hands", Waziri said.

Numerous breathtaking artifacts appeared to excavators of the Egyptian archaeological mission led by Waziri, where coffins are being extracted while many are still buried deep in the ground. "More work equals more discoveries", he told AFP on the sidelines of the press conference.

'These discoveries are priceless for Egypt's reputation, ' he added.

But, critics point to archaeological sites and museums afflicted by neglect and inadequate direction.
