Maggie Rogers Calls Out Sexist Behavior During Her Concert

Maggie Rogers Calls Out Sexist Behavior During Her Concert”

Rogers continued her set and posted the statement on Instagram the next day.

"Last night, in the middle of this speech a man yelled "take your top off.' Another joined in and yelled 'you cute though". But Rogers is taking a stand against the sexist behavior that men and other concertgoers feel entitled to.

Rogers did not detail the succeeding events at the show, but she took it to Twitter to share her sentiments over the incident.

According to her statement, Rogers was "stunned, furious, fuming [and] confused" by the comments, adding, "On a really basic level, it really hurt my feelings". She ended the show with an encore of her most popular track, "Alaska", and, as is her custom, gives a moving preamble for what she calls "the most vulnerable part of the set". In turn, she wanted a place that would allow everyone the sense of relief, release and trust. "I've been writing and producing music for 10 years - my body is my greatest tool for communicating that work".

Rogers rose to fame after showcasing her song "Alaska" to Pharrell Williams during a masterclass at New York University in 2016.

She starts to play her next song and then stops as heckling continues. The session was filmed and inevitably went viral online, helping her find her way into the music limelight. She experienced having a panic attack and running off stage while sobbing. "Thought I was going to break". But Rogers doesn't want anything to do with it.

Ending the message, Rogers wrote: "i are seeking to sing this moment to be very very sure. there could be no longer any space for harassment or disrespect or degradation of any kind at my present off.be kind to every other within the market".
