Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic drawn in same group at ATP finals

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic drawn in same group at ATP finals”

Federer has won the ATP Finals a record six times in his career - last winning the title in 2011 - while Djokovic has won it five times.

Nadal, 33, withdrew from that tournament with an abdominal injury, but signaled on social media this week that he would do all he can to be fit for London.

Djokovic will contest the first singles match against Berrettini on Sunday afternoon, followed by Federer vs. Thiem at night.

Medvedev, the Russian world No. 4 who has been in astonishing form since Wimbledon, will arguably be viewed as the favourite to come out of their group given Nadal's injury woes, while Federer and Djokovic will be fancied to progress ahead of Dominic Thiem and debutant Matteo Berrettini. Thiem, one of the in-form players in the world right now, is also joined by Italian sensation Matteo Berretini.

World number one Rafael Nadal is in a group with Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

The seeding for the finals saw Nadal out in front, with Roger Federer bound to have been disappointed to be slated as only the third-best shot on a hard court service.

Nadal is looking to win the competition for the first time.

The pair, who met in an epic US Open final back in September, have been placed in the "Andre Agassi Group" alongside young stars Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece and Alexander Zverev of Germany.

However, a turnaround in the latter part of the season with promising performances at the China Open and Shanghai Masters ensured he claimed the seventh spot and with it an opportunity to defend his title.

The tournament, won a year ago by Germany's Zverev, follows a round-robin format where the top two in each group then progress to the semi-finals. He has previously made two finals, the last one in 2013. With a lot of unpredictability and uncertainty to look forward to, a tennis fan will be delighted as that is precisely what would make for a phenomenal end to another spectacular year on the ATP calendar.
