Sharks' Evander Kane Sued By Vegas Casino Over $500K In Gambling Credits”

Evander Kane, the San Jose Sharks forward, is facing a $500,000 lawsuit from the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. (L.E. Baskow/Las Vegas Review-Journal) Knights right wing Ryan Reaves (75) fights with San Jose Sharks left wing Evander Kane (9) during the third period of Game 3 of an NHL Western Conference quarterfinal series at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Sunday, April 14, 2019.

The lawsuit alleges Kane withdrew eight markers between $20,000 and $100,000 U.S. around April 15, or in between Games 3 and 4 of the opening-round playoff series in Las Vegas. The Sharks were in Las Vegas at that time playing the Vegas Golden Knights in a first-round Stanley Cup playoff series, which the Sharks ultimately won in seven games.

The NHL nor the Sharks have commented on the suit. The Knights and Sharks met in the season opener and when asked about his feelings about Kane's suspension, Reaves simply said he was "very disappointed".

The Cosmopolitan also seeks repayment of legal fees associated with the lawsuit. The casino has also declined to comment, citing company policy with pending litigation.

The 28-year-old Kane is in the second year of his seven-season $49 million contract which he signed with the San Jose Sharks. It alleges that eight gambling markers were used by Kane in and around April 15, 2019. Kane was subsequently suspended three games for abuse of an official.

The on-going feud between the two players has made Kane a persona non grata in Las Vegas hockey circles.
