KPL: KSCA Suspends Belagavi Panthers Franchise Over Match-Fixing”

Kazi was playing for Bellary Tuskers under Goutam's captaincy in the KPL tourney 2019.

Both Gautham and Kazi had been named in their respective state squads for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday. In the latest development, match-fixing shocked Karnataka Premier League (KPL) and the state cricket association had suspended Belagavi Panthers franchise, whose owner identified as Ali Ashfaq Thara is among the six people arrested by the police so far in association with the infamous scandal. "He has been replaced by Darshan Misal as the captain and we have sent a player Prathamesh as his replacement", Goa Cricket Association secretary Vipul Phadke said. Shekhawat, who has played for several teams in KPL, is also accused of helping the bookies. An investigation officer told, "They were paid RS 20 lakh for slow batting, and for other things". KSCA further clarified the fact that they can not accept any illegal activities such as betting and match-fixing.

Captain Gautam had reportedly agreed to bat slowly as long as he was at the crease, while Abrar Kazi had agreed to bowl and give away more than 10 runs a over in the finals. As of Thursday, seven people - including four players - have been arrested in relation to fixing in the KPL. "Further investigation on and more arrests would be done", as mentioned by Patil.

Betting and match-fixing have always been an inseparable part of the game for many years.

Gautam has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and was Vinay Kumar's deputy for a long time.

CM Gautam, a wicket keeper batsman has played for the likes of Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challangers Bangalore in the IPL, winning the tournament twice with Mumbai Indians in 2013 and 2015. He transferred to Mizoram at the start of this season. This means they can not play any cricket organised by the KSCA while their suspension stands. Both of them will be produced before the court and taken into police custody.
