Protesters Cut Off Bolivia Mayor's Hair, Douse Her In Red Paint”

The mayor of a small town in Bolivia has become the latest victim of violence in the country that has seen violent street clashes intensifying over the country's disputed election almost three weeks ago.

The crowd accused Arce of busing in supporters of incumbent President Evo Morales to break up an anti-government demonstration, during which two protesters were rumored to have been killed, according to the BBC.

Police and firefighters had to step in to save Mayor Patricia Arce from the angry mob in Vinto, a town of approximately 52,000 in central Bolivia.

Bolivia's President Evo Morales condemned the attack on Arce.

Police rescue Vinto mayor Patricia Arce Guzman on a motorcycle after people threw paint and dirt on her following a fire in Vinto's Town Hall, in Quillacollo, Bolivia, on November 6, 2019.

The mayor of that city was attacked by protesters after rumors went out, which said 2 members of the opposition had been killed by supporters of Morales.

Amid shouts of "murderess, murderess" masked men dragged her through the streets barefoot to the bridge.

Television images showed her on the ground, her hair cut, and covered in red paint. They also forced her to sign a resignation letter and torched parts of city hall.

One of the victims, a 20-year old student, succumbed to injuries sustained during clashes between pro-government and anti-government demonstrators in Cochabamba.

Protesters also destroyed the local town hall and set the mayor's office on fire. Doctors said Guzmán Vasquez had a fractured skull which may have been caused by an explosive device. Bolivia's post-election clashes turn deadly as two are killed.

The suspension precipitated suspicions among supporters of opposition candidate Carlos Mesa that the end result had been rigged to permit Morales, who has been in energy since 2006 to pause on for one other 5 years.

Morales, whose October election win was marred by allegations of fraud after an abrupt halt in the vote count and an unusual swing in the leftist leader's favor, again blamed the opposition for the civil unrest as he addressed supporters in the rural area of Cochabamba.

Election observers from the Organisation of American States (OAS) expressed their concerns and an audit by the body is now underway. Nonetheless, Mesa has rejected the audit arguing that it became agreed with out his or his occasion's enter.

Morales accuses the opposition of trying to stage a coup.
