At least two people were injured and 34 people were temporarily trapped underground after an explosion at a mine in eastern Germany on Friday.

Rescuers and firefighters battled to bring them back to the surface via a mine shaft that survived the explosion.

Police defined to information firm dpa that as much as 30 extra people have been considered in a security location underground subsequent the explosion Friday morning on the Teutschenthal facility, round Halle.

According to Halle police on Twitter, all people were rescued safely. It evidently was triggered by an explosive mixture of gases. The safety room is reportedly 700 meters (2,300 feet) underground.

According to German media, early indications were that no harmful substances had spread into the wider environment. Potash salts had been mined in this place for more than 80 years until 1982, when the mines were closed.

The persons are trapped in a secured area of the mine in the town of Teutschenthal, the report said.

Last month, Halle was rocked by an anti-Semitic shooting attack near a synagogue, in which two people were killed.
