TROPICS: No Threat To Land, Tropical Storm Sebastien Forms In Atlantic

TROPICS: No Threat To Land, Tropical Storm Sebastien Forms In Atlantic”

This disturbance is not likely to develop into a tropical or subtropical storm, but we'll keep an eye on it over the coming days.

The center of Tropical Storm Sebastien was located 275 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands, moving toward the north-northwest near 8 mph.

It's still hurricane season, and the Atlantic has a new tropical storm to watch for the next few days. The system is moving northwest at 8 miles per hour. The system will be battling dry air to the west for the next couple of days.

Forecasters say the storm is not in an "ideal environment for significant intensification" and is expected to become absorbed by an approaching cold front in about 48 hours.

Meteorologist Glenn Glazer expects it to be very short-lived as a big system exiting the U.S. east coast shoves Sebastien out to sea, while simultaneously tearing it apart late Wednesday into Thursday. It's a way to measure how active a hurricane season was, and is a better, more accurate measure of the activity of a season than just looking at the number of named storms.
