Australia take massive lead in first test against Pakistan”

After getting walloped in the three-match T20I series, earlier this month, all eyes were on their Test side and their rookie fast bowlers like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah or the returning Imran Khan Junior, as to whether they could pose any threat to the Aussie batsmen in their home conditions.

It was the first time a concussion replacement had been used in Test cricket since the new law was introduced.

On day three at the Gabba, Shah clean bowled Smith for just four runs - the seventh time the spinner has dismissed the Aussie batting sensation.

While Burns (97) missed out on a well-deserved century, Warner successfully shrugged off the horrors of the recently concluded Ashes series, where he could manage just 95 runs across ten innings, by smoking his 4th Test hundred against Pakistan.

At stumps Pakistan were in big trouble on 64 for three, still needing 276 runs to make Australia bat again.

Interestingly, debutant pacer Naseem Shah had David Warner nicking behind when on 56, but it was deemed a no ball as the bowler had overstepped.

During the morning session, Shah created some discomfort for the Australians, including, nearly taking the wicket of Australian opener David Warner. Labuschagne and Matthew Wade shared in a 110-run partnership before Wade was well caught by Rizwan for 60 off Sohail. Naseem didnt bowl in the session, which was the fifth straight that Pakistan spent in the field, and still had figures of 1-68 from 20 overs.

However, Marnus Labuschagne then took command of the scoring as he went on to score his maiden Test ton.

Naseem, whose pace has been impressive during this Test, eventually claimed Warner when the nuggety opener was unable to avoid a short pitched ball and edged it to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, to leave the Australians 351 for two. His 100 came from 161 balls in 200 minutes and contained a dozen boundaries.
