Carter Page on criminal investigation: I never did anything wrong

Carter Page on criminal investigation: I never did anything wrong”

An FBI official is under criminal investigation after allegedly altering a document related to surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser in 2016, according to several sources briefed on the matter.

"The word is it's historic", Trump told Fox News Channel about an upcoming Justice Department watchdog report on the FBI's adherence to Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act requirements during the 2016 campaign. And while the Post initially reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation employee being investigated worked for former Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok, a hated figure in Trump world, the Post later corrected its report to state that the lawyer in question was "a low-level lawyer in the Office of General Counsel and did not report to the deputy assistant director".

CNN first reported the development Thursday evening.

The sources emphasized that the alleged adjustment may not have had any material impact on the appropriateness of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, warrant targeting Page.

Democrats in turn have argued the scrutiny of the investigators is merely an attempt to deflect against Russia's extensive efforts to interfere in the 2016 election in order to benefit President Trump.

"The FISA warrant issued against Carter Page based on a dossier prepared by Christopher Steele is at a minimum disturbing", Graham stated.

Horowitz will release the report December 9, and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee two days later. The surveillance continued into 2017, after Trump took office.

The New York Times also reported that the draft doesn't corroborate conspiracy theories and insinuations offered by Trump and his allies about the early stages of the Russian Federation investigation.

U.S. Attorney John Durham (above) has opened a criminal investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

But Trump insists that members of the Obama administration "at the highest levels" were spying on his 2016 campaign.

The name of the supervisor special agent or agents who submitted sworn statements to support the FISA application and renewals was redacted when the applications were publicly released.

The inspector general report - centered in part on the use of a secret surveillance warrant to monitor the communications of a former Trump adviser - is likely to revive debate about an investigation that has shadowed Trump's presidency since the beginning.

"I look at it from the big picture perspective", said Page.
