Astronomers Capture Best Look Yet at Comet 21/Borisov”

Yet another interstellar visitor has been found out to travel a huge distance to the planets of our own solar system.

Interstellar comet 2l/Borisov is only the second known object to visit our solar system from the great wide universe beyond.

The comet, named as 2I/Borisov, was first spotted on August 30 by amateur astronomer Gennady Borisov from Crimea.

Using the W.M. Keck Observatory's Low-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer, a team of astronomers at Yale University has captured new imagery of the interstellar comet 2l/Borisov - the first closeup view of the alien object.

What we know now is that the comet is getting closer to our planet, and will reach closer by 190 million miles in December. Besides the close-up of the comet, another set of images are showing us how the comet will look, and it will be on the closer point besides Earth.

Astronomers said that the comet has a tail shaped element behind it that measures nearly 100,000 miles, which is over a dozen Earth diameters in a row, long at present.

The problem with Oumuamua is that, on the day of its discovery, the object was already on the way back, thus minimizing our chances of being able to study and photograph it. Comet 2I / Borisov is now on an incoming trajectory. It was shooting through the Solar System on a odd, hyperbolic trajectory, and it was implying that whatever this was, it was definitely not from around here. Yale astronomers Pieter van Dokkum, Cheng-Han Hsieh, Shany Danieli, and Gregory Laughlin acquired the image on November 24, 2019. "Analysis of comets can help us understand the formation of the solar system and properties of minor bodies in the system", said Kumar Venkataramani, a researcher at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad who received his PhD from IIT Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) earlier this year for his thesis 'Optical Spectroscopic Studies of Minor Bodies of the Solar System.' His primary findings pointed at the different compositions of comets.

One Yale astronomer called Pieter van Dokkum said that it is humbling to realize how small Earth is next to the visitor from another solar system.

It also has a reddish hue. They determined that the comet is dominated by dust, which is typical for comets. These are from where the majority of comets in our solar system originate.
