Facebook, Instagram down for thousands of users globally”

The heaviest concentration of reported problems appears to be in the Northeast of the USA, according to a DownDetector map.

Instagram was worse, with more than 20,000 problems being reported at 10 a.m., according to Downdetector.com.

The issue has been seen across the world, although, it does not appear to affect all users the same.

As the popular social media networks experienced the issues, many took to Twitter, which is still up and running.

As well as the sheer volume of users, DownDetector tries to work out exactly what the issues could be.

It is yet unclear what went wrong but Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, tweeted on Thursday that it was aware of the problem. The company's flagship social network has more than 2.3 billion users, and Instagram has more than 1 billion. Like I got WiFi but it's saying can't refresh feed and won't load stories and my page ain't loading.

And one joked: " Black Friday hitting hard on Facebook".

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing Facebook's family of apps, including Instagram". "Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes".
