Jurgen Klopp blames temperature for Adrian mistake for Brighton goal

Liverpool's German manager Jurgen Klopp (L) and Liverpool's Scottish defender Andrew Robertson applaud the fans following the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield in Liverpool, north west England on January 1, 2019.

Jurgen Klopp's side were flying in the first half as two Virgil Van Dijk headers set them on their way but Brighton were risky throughout and especially after Alisson was sent off.

Liverpool then eased off the gas and Brighton briefly threatened as Davy Propper forced a save from Alisson from distance but the first half ended with Firmino testing Ryan again.

Hours after City's shaky defense conceded an 88th-minute equalizer in a 2-2 draw at Newcastle, Van Dijk ventured forward to power home two headed goals from set pieces and lead Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Brighton at Anfield. "We tried to score more goals but it did not happen", said Guardiola, whose side failed to capitalise on almost 80 percent of possession.

Van Dijk has also made a valuable contribution in attack where he has played a direct part in 11 of Liverpool's goals this year, scoring eight of them himself.

"Result-wise, it is an incredible period for sure, but we don't want to think about the last 14 games - we actually are concerned about the next one, which is on Wednesday against Everton and is a big one".

There was one point where I thought I was in and then he comes back and he's toed it back to his keeper and I'm just thinking, sometimes you have to appreciate you are playing against the best defender in the world.

"Second half it was hard work again and the boys put in another incredible shift in the game". Of course, life became more complicated with the red card and the change we had to make.

"We had to bring on a frozen goalkeeper pretty much!" added the German.

"Everybody sitting here is probably not warm yet so imagine you go out there in shorts, and really thin shirt and gloves that are not for keeping you warm!"

We showed a lot of personality, a lot of courage and a lot of quality against a really, really good team. With his cold feet, he couldn't shoot the ball as far as he wanted!

"In the end, it kept it a bit interesting but it's only important that we won the game and that's what we did, so I am really pleased about that. We were not prepared for that situation so I am completely happy", Klopp said.
