Australia v Pakistan: Yasir Shah century defies Mitchell Starc after wicket haul

Australia v Pakistan: Yasir Shah century defies Mitchell Starc after wicket haul”

Fast bowler Usman Shinwari on Sunday revealed that he had challenged his friend and leg-spinner Yasir Shah to display his batting prowess in Australia when the two faced each other in a domestic match before the Test series Down Under.

"Yasir was aiming to play a longer innings, when I went to him and said that 'I will accept you as a batsman only when you will be able to stay at the crease in Australia, where you will face bowlers at speed of 150".

Ponting describes Pakistan's bowling collective as "terrible", saying the visitors have been caught in a flawless Australian storm.

Former Australian Test skipper Ricky Ponting says Pakistan's bowling attack is among the worst he's seen.

"They (Pakistan's bowlers) have been poor. their bowling attack is awful really for a Test attack", Ponting told

At Adelaide, 19-year-old Muhammed Musa was similarly culpable when he had Warner caught in the slips when on 226.

Ponting said he fails to fathom why Pakistan didn't play the 16-year-old Naseem Shah who impressed one and all - first in the practice game and then on his Test debut. "And they go with another guy (Musa) who has played seven first-class games and just doesn't look to be a Test match bowler".

With Warner having surpassed the records of Sir Donald Bradman and Mark Taylor's scores of 334 to become second-highest scorer in an innings by an Australian, the opener had his sights on Lara's highest score of all-time.

"I just think in England you can get caught up in playing too much in front [of the body], especially with the way I play, so I've had to regroup coming back from England, I've hit 3500-4000 balls leading into Brisbane and here as well I batted for a good two hours per session as well".

Mitchell Starc was the hero, taking 6-66, but he put Australia's commanding position down to greater consistency within the team.

After claiming four wickets with edges on Saturday night, Starc claimed his 12th career five-wicket haul on Sunday and his second in six tests with the pink ball.

Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi took all three of Australia's wickets, including bowling Labuschagne for 162.

"It's a tough one, no doubt. We really looked at the weather that's around tomorrow [Sunday], we wanted to give ourselves a lot of time", Warner said after day two. "I think everyone would have loved to see the 400-mark get beaten", Paine told Channel 7 ahead of day three.

"Davey was part of that decision and was all for it. We are here to win Test matches".
