EU antitrust regulators seek details of Google’s data practices”

Moreover, they also wanted to know the details of the contracts that allowed companies access to Facebook's API and what was the overall impact on the companies if they couldn't use the data.

Recently, a mistrust has been generated among Google and European Union.

The EU forms ask for the kind of data that Google has asked for and the data's value, as well as whether the companies are constrained by any contractual clauses on what they can do with the data.

The European commission executivetold Reuters that questionnaires had been sent as part of preliminary investigations into Facebook and Google's data.

This follows a statement being shared with Reuters by the EU's commission, in which it noted that it would be conducting a preliminary investigation. Regulators also meant to know if Google and the companies have been subject to illicit contract terms preventing or limiting the use of the data. The tech giant is also facing intense antitrust scrutiny on the home front, with 50 state attorneys general now conducting an investigation into various facets of Google's business.

European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager has handed down fines totaling more than eight billion euros to Google in the last two years and ordered it to change its business practices.

Google has responded to these fines and other allegations by saying it uses data to improve its services and users have the ability to manage, delete or transfer data collected about them at any time.

Google said its measures had proved effective and were sending traffic to third-party merchants. "These investigations concern the way data is gathered, processed, used and monetized including for advertising purposes", the EU's competition watchdog said. "We will continue to engage with the Commission and others on this important discussion for our industry", a spokesman said. Google competitors (e.g., Oracle) have also complained that Google has the ability to capture and combine data from many of its properties for a more holistic view of consumers and their behavior - providing an potentially unfair competitive advantage.
