CSA calls for ‘special sitting to address crisis

CSA calls for ‘special sitting to address crisis”

In Arendse's letter to the "cricket-loving fraternity, " he accused the CSA board of failing in its responsibilities and asked it to "act before it's too late" to put CSA on a more secure and sustainable footing.

There is a possibility that leading South African cricket players will embark on industrial action in protest against the already under-pressure Cricket South Africa.

They are due to play four Tests against the Proteas, the first beginning at SuperSport Park on Boxing Day, as well as three one-day internationals and three of the Twenty20 variety on a safari - complete with many thousands of travelling supporters - that is supposed to breathe some fresh life into CSA's much-publicised, embattled coffers.

"We still have to discuss the principle of it (industrial action), this is a very early stage of discussion and we will be very mindful of the importance of the global fixtures". "We will be responsible around the global tours, because we know that those affect teams from outside of South Africa". He felt that it is all about keeping the game healthy and clean because it will be good for the players, whose livelihood is dependent on the game only. "It is unlikely those will be affected", he said.

He added: "It is an exhaustion of all other means of trying to deal with issues. At some stage, you must decide whether you will accept that", he added.

On Tuesday, CSA board member Shirley Zinn resigned, citing corporate governance concerns, and her objection to the banning of journalists.

We encourage transparent reporting of the highs and lows of Cricket South Africa and every South African institution - public or private.

These include an allegation of "widespread credit card abuse in the office"; Khan's objection to the revoking of media accreditation to a group of prominent cricket scribes; resignations in the CSA office due to a "toxic environment"; and CSA's treatment of players' body the South African Cricketers' Association (SACA).

Sport24 has also sent questions to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), related to the health or otherwise of the tour and present events within CSA, but had not received a response at the time of writing.

Standard Bank, a major CSA sponsor, called an urgent meeting with Moroe on Monday to discuss, among the things, why the organisation withdrew the accreditation of five journalists deemed critical of his leadership.

The bank's chief marketing officer, Thulani Sibeko, said they were "gravely concerned about developments" within the CSA administration.

Bacher said in an interview with the espncricinfo website that he had mediated talks between Moroe and former Test captain Graeme Smith on August 28, which could have led to Smith becoming CSA director of cricket.
