Influencers in prison for a plot to steal the website at gunpoint”

He was also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution and to pay prosecution costs and attorney fees.

Rossi Lothario Adams II, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, founded the social media company "State Snaps" in 2015 as a student at Iowa State University, which had more than 1 million combined followers.

Many of his followers adopted the slogan "Do It For State", so Adams tried to buy doitforstate.com, but learned that it had already been purchased in 2015.

Hopkins, 44, survived and was final yr sentenced to 20 years in federal jail after pleading responsible to interference and tried interference with commerce by threats and violence, the lawyer's workplace mentioned. Adam's social media accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, had more than a million followers at one point, the statement said.

Hopkins entered the victim's home with a gun and a taser and a tights on his head, sunglasses and a hat. After an unsuccessful two years of negotiating the domain name, the attack took place in June of 2017.

Adams drove Hopkins to the unnamed victim's house, where Hopkins used a gun to try and force the victim to transfer the name to Adams' GoDaddy.com account.

As for the reason for his arrest and conviction, Adams wanted the domain name doitforstate.com, with the influencer regularly using the hashtag #DoItForState. Adams runs a small social media empire called State Snaps that the US Department of Justice describes as "images and videos of young adults engaged in crude behavior, drunkenness, and nudity". The heist didn't go as planned, and both the domain-name owner and Hopkins ended up suffering gunshot wounds.

Hopkins Jr, according to the DoJ, entered Deyo's home wearing a disguise of pantyhose on his head and dark glasses. Throughout the process of getting the owner to transfer the ownership, Hopkins began fearing for his life as the owner wrestled him for the gun. Hopkins had with him a demand note from Adams which contained instructions for transferring the domain to Adams' GoDaddy account. Hopkins shouted at the victim, who then ran into an upstairs bedroom and shut the door, leaning up against the door to stop Hopkins from entering. The domain owner then shot Hopkins in the chest several times and subsequently contacted law enforcement.

Adams was convicted in April and sentenced to 168 months in federal prison on Monday by the judge of the United States District Court, C.J. Williams He was ordered to pay $ 9,000 in restitution, nearly $ 4,000 or costs of prosecution and $ 22,000 in attorneys' fees as part of his sentence.

During a violent struggle, the victim was shot in the leg before he managed to control the gun.
