Big Bash League: Glenn Maxwell stars as Melbourne Stars defeat Brisbane Heat

Big Bash League: Glenn Maxwell stars as Melbourne Stars defeat Brisbane Heat”

The 31-year-old recently announced his availability to competitive cricket after opting to take time off the sport to deal with mental health issues in October this year. Maxwell, who also captains the Stars, was left out of Australia's upcoming limited-overs tour to India.

"Yeah certainly, especially with the T20 World Cup around the corner", he said. "There's that big carrot I suppose at the start of next season, and I'll be doing everything I can to work towards that", Maxwell was quoted as saying on the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"I don't think I ever doubted the performance part of it, it was just I suppose the other part of the game that I needed to get right while I was away".

"I felt really good", Maxwell said. "We were following it with coaching staff". Couldn't watch it anywhere, so we were just watching it on the Twitter feed.

Maxwell was added to Kings XI Punjab a day before the IPL 2020 auction on December 19 for 10.75 crores.

"Very exciting and glad to be going home to the Kings XI [Punjab]".

Peter Handscomb (20 off 15) was the next highest scorer for the visitors, emphasising the importance of Maxwell's innings.

He gave the Heat a half-chance to get him out early when he was dropped by a flying Ben Laughlin in the deep for 12 but was faultless from then on.

In reply the Heat made a fantastic start through English import Tom Banton, who belted 64 off 35 balls including four massive sixes, but the hosts slumped to their second loss in as many matches by finishing on 8-145.

The 21-year-old was the second batsman caught in the deep by Ben Dunk off the bowling of Adam Zampa (3-30) after the pair had earlier combined to remove the risky Lynn for just eight.

The Heat will aim to open their account on Sunday when they face the Sydney Sixers at the SCG.

Chasing 168, Brisbane Heat lost its opening wicket with 29 runs on the board as Max Bryant (6) was sent back to the pavilion by Haris Rauf in the fourth over.
