Amazon lays off staffers for leaking customer info to third-party vendors”

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the news with multiple outlets after several customers received notifications from the company warning that their e-mail addresses and phone numbers had been leaked "to a third-party in violation of our policies", per a screenshot shared by TechCrunch.

An Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider that its internal system detected "suspicious behavior" and immediately fired several employees involved. In the email, Amazon stated it's against company policy for workers to share data with third parties. Amazon faced a similar theft six months ago. Amazon hasn't discussed the impact on the customers or the steps it plans to take in order to prevent this from happening in the future.

The email reveals nothing about the employee, who he or she was working with, where the information was shared, who it was shared with, and how many people were affected by the leak. The e-mail said a single Amazon employee was found to be responsible for the theft, but later stated that more than one Amazon employee was responsible.

FOX Business' Hillary Vaughn reports on a letter from Amazon's Ring to Congress detailing the home security company's data breaches.

The company's internal systems "suspicious behavior" detected after all employees involved in the event was sacked. Ring said it fired the employees for improperly viewing video footage from customer cameras.

Last year, it was claimed that companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Netflix and Spotify were not informed enough about the use of their personal data in violation of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
