All The Best Meme Reactions To Oscar Snubs

All The Best Meme Reactions To Oscar Snubs”

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and in a sadly predictable turn of events, the Best Director category featured five male nominees and no women. Issa Rae, who announced the nominees with John Cho, put it perfectly when she said, "Congratulations to those men".

"To nominate Greta for best picture and best screenplay and best actresses but not best director just truly speaks to the way we don't view women as auteurs no matter how much they clearly ARE", Decider's senior film reporter, Anna Menta, argued on Twitter. Whilst few feminine administrators controlled to damage in the course of the noise of Oscars buzz within the run-up to the nomination announcement, various feminine filmmakers have already earned awards consideration this season, together with Gerwig, Lulu Wang, Marielle Heller, Chinonye Chukwu, Kasi Lemmons, and Melina Matsoukas. The subtle shadow of Rae returns on Natalie Portman's own "Here are all male nominees" of the Golden Globes 2018 - but what have we learned in the past two years?

Bigelow is the only woman to win best director in the 90-year history of the Academy Awards.

Gerwig only became the fifth woman to be nominated for Best Director at the 2018 Oscars.

Though Gerwig was, by all accounts, snubbed for Best Director for Little Women this year, she was recognized in 2017 for Lady Bird. She was also nominated for Best Screenplay for the Italian language film, though she did not take home either award. The then 33-year-old made her solo directorial debut with the coming-of-age film, starring Saoirse Ronan, and she was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Gerwig finally marked a nomination in the category of the scenario best adapted. "Little Women" was also nominated for the best original score and the best costume design.

No female-directed movies have been nominated within the Best possible Animated Function race both, and just one made it thru within the Best possible Global Function Movie class: "Honeyland", co-directed by means of Tamara Kotevska.

Vying for second place with 10 nominations apiece are three films: Martin Scorsese's elegiac crime epic "The Irishman", Quentin Tarantino's 1960s Los Angeles fairy tale "Once Upon a Time.in Hollywood" and Sam Mendes' World War I tale "1917". "This film testifies to the brilliance of Greta Gerwig. She is the most brilliant creative talent working in our industry today, and we are thrilled that she and our attractive film have been recognized".
