An Iranian missile took down the Ukraine passenger jet, claim United States officials

An Iranian missile took down the Ukraine passenger jet, claim United States officials”

The aircraft crashed just minutes after takeoff from the Imam Khomeini International Airport.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he could not rule out a missile strike but this had not been confirmed.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, US President Donald Trump said he had suspicions that "somebody could have made a mistake", without going into detail. "I have a feeling something awful happened".

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau echoed Trump's concerns, saying that evidence indicates an Iranian missile downed the and that the strike "may have been unintentional". Tehran blamed a technical malfunction while United States and Canadian authorities said Iran shot down the aircraft perhaps unintentionally.

The Iranian government has strongly denied the claims, and accused the USA of spreading misinformation.

Tehran accused the West of "psychological warfare" as it denied that it shot down the jet. "One of the things which was discussed - or which was offered, proposed by the Iranian specialists - is to think about decoding the black boxes on the Iranian soil".

Reportedly, U.S. officials have claimed that it was "highly likely" that the Ukranian plane was shot down by an Iranian anti-aircraft missile.

Trudeau's comments came as video footage emerged that appeared to show the moment the airliner was hit.

The Ukrainian passenger jet that crashed shortly after takeoff from Iran's capital on Wednesday was brought down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile, according to United States and Canadian intelligence officials.

Iran was inviting experts from Boeing, the jetliner's manufacturer, to join the investigation into the crash, the Iranian official news agency IRNA said on Friday, while the US National Transportation Safety Board said it had received "formal notification" of the crash from Iran and had designated a representative to the crash inquiry.

"The families of the victims want answers, Canadians want answers, I want answers", he said. "I personally don't think that's even a question", Trump said, adding that "something very awful happened".

"We also recommend against taking a flight to, from and within Iran".

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has also advised British travellers against all air travel to, from and within Iran.
