Facebook’s Zuckerberg takes long view on new year’s resolutions

Facebook’s Zuckerberg takes long view on new year’s resolutions”

"While Twitter has chosen to block political ads and Google has chosen to limit the targeting of political ads, we are choosing to expand transparency and give more controls to people when it comes to political ads", said the statement.

On Sunday, Star Wars icon Mark Hamill took to Twitter to announce that he would be deleting his Facebook account in protest of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's decision to allow political advertisements including lies and propaganda on the site. His lists had evolved to reflect that; his goal for 2018 was to "fix Facebook".

"Over the next decade, we'll focus more on funding and giving a platform to younger entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders to enable these changes", Zuckerberg wrote.

Over the past decade, the 34-year-old billionaire chief executive has welcomed in the new year with a range of different pledges and projects, including, but not limited to, building his own AI-powered robot assistant and a promise to only eat meat from animals he killed himself for a year.

"Somewhat than having year-to-year challenges, I've tried to consider what I hope the world and my life will look in 2030 so I can make sure that I'm specializing in these issues", he stated. So for the first time since 2008, he's not announcing a personal goal for the new year.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg predicts that by the end of the decade people will dump their phones for augmented reality glasses, and make broad use of virtual reality.

"Today, many people feel like they have to move to cities because that's where the jobs are", he said.

"Over the next decade, we hope to build the commerce and payments tools so that every small business has easy access to the same technology that previously only big companies have had", Zuckerberg wrote. He's also considering how governments should regulate free speech, privacy and data usage on the internet.

Other areas of focus, he said, will be continuing to invest in curing diseases through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the nonprofit Zuckerberg runs with his wife Priscilla Chan, and improving upon private interactions on social media.
