Marcus Stoinis Slams Highest Individual Score in BBL”

Melbourne Stars' opener Marcus Stoinis rewrote history books on Sunday as he slammed his maiden century during his team's Big Bash League (BBL) encounter against Sydney Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Cartwright gone back to the pavilion after scoring 59 down 40 balls.

219/1 - Melbourne Stars' total of 219/1 is their highest in the Big Bash League surpassing the 208/7 against Melbourne Renegades in 2013-14 season.

Sixers seamer Ben Dwarshuis conceded 61 runs from his four overs - the most expensive return in the Big Bash - with England man Tom Curran taken for 58 from his four overs in Melbourne. Melbourne scored 219 for just one wicket in 20 overs. Moises Henriques made a classy 41 but his departure in the 11th over snuffed out all hope. However, that was not enough for the Sixers to cross the winning line. Aaron Finch also faced 79 balls for his unbeaten 131 for Surrey in the 2018 T20 Blast against Sussex.

The star of the game was undoubtedly Stars' opener batsman Marcus Stoinis, who played a superb unbeaten knock of 147. The last 24 balls were carnage as the Stars struck six fours and four sixes to all parts of the MCG. There were ramps, uppercuts, off drives, pull shots and an outrageous bottom-handed flick from Stoinis that cleared the long boundary at midwicket.

It was on the penultimate delivery of the 10th over when Stoinis ran a single off Sixers spinner Lloyd Pope to cross the 50-run mark.

Only once had a side ever chased more in the BBL, when the Hobart Hurricanes mowed down 223 against the Melbourne Renegades.

The Sixers needed everything to go their way, though, and, well, it just did not happen. James Vince also should have fallen but was dropped by Hinchliffe at deep square. Stoinis' knock is also the highest individual T20 score on Australian soil going past Shane Watson's 124* for Australia in the 2016 Sydney T20I against India.
