Model Gigi Hadid shows up for jury duty in Weinstein rape trial

Model Gigi Hadid shows up for jury duty in Weinstein rape trial”

Gigi confirmed to the judge that she has previously met Weinstein and potential witness Salma Hayek, but felt she "could judge the case impartially". I've been summoned for jury duty, ya'll. "She was given a questionnaire to fill out and return with it on Thursday for further questioning by both the prosecution and defense".

Earlier today (Jan. 13), the world-renowned fashion model was swallowed by a sea of paparazzi upon her arrival at the courthouse in Manhattan dressed in an oversized blazer, white t-shirt, and sunglasses. She said, "I think I'm still able to keep an open mind on the facts".

The Mexican-born actress has accused Weinstein, 67, of sexual harassment and may be mentioned in court during the trial.

The former studio boss behind such Oscar winners as "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love" has said any sexual activity was consensual.

Weinstein's trial began last week with final hearings before jury selection, and got off to a rocky start when Judge James Burke threatened the producer with jail time after he repeatedly used his phone in court. The panel ruled against a plaintiff who claimed he was seriously scalded in the shower by a blast of hot water.

Michael Bloomberg was considered for a civil case while mayor in 2007, but the current Democratic presidential candidate was ultimately sent home over fears his admittedly "strong personality" would dominate the jury.

Weinstein is facing five counts of rape and sexual assault, and could serve life in prison if convicted. Opening statements have been tentatively set for January 22.

Burke denied the request, noting that he expected the protest would not be the last.

Molly's tweets read: "Gigi Hadid was among 120 New Yorkers summoned for jury duty this morning at Harvey Weinstein's rape and sexual assault trial because mark my words, there will not be a boring moment". They're being introduced as a group to Weinstein and read a list of names that could come up at trial, including Hayek and actresses Charlize Theron and Rosie Perez.

On 6 January, as the NY trial began, Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced new sexual assault charges against Weinstein.

Weinstein has not entered a plea in the Los Angeles case, which will be tried later.
