Using Huawei in United Kingdom 5G network 'would be madness', USA claims”

A team of high-ranking U.S. officials, including from the National Security Agency (NSA), were set to present supposedly damning evidence to the United Kingdom government on Monday, arguing the equipment supplied by the Chinese company may come with hidden "backdoors" granting Beijing access to critical British infrastructure.

President Donald Trump is said to be "concerned" about the prospect of Britain using Huawei because he "doesn't want anything to come between" him and Boris Johnson.

Speaking to the Financial Times, US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien expressed doubts in UK's decision making in this matter, and remarked that country merely viewed Huawei's inclusion to their 5G networks as a commercial decision rather than a national security decision. They also said the UK's intelligence-sharing relationship with America could be cut off. While Sir Andrew Parker is said to have acknowledged that security fears should not "dominate and dictate decisions", the newspaper pointed out that the National Security Council had few options because of the small number of 5G suppliers on the market.

However, UK officials have suggested they are not anxious that such a review would lead to any substantive change in behaviour.

Huawei has consistently denied that it has ever been asked by the Chinese government to introduce secret "back doors" into its technology.

The US has long maintained that Huawei's telecommunications equipment may be created to spy on foreign corporations and countries on behalf of the Chinese government - something that both the company and Beijing have vehemently denied. "British experts are clear our technology does not pose a security risk". Ltd. was unquestionably not right the company to use to build its 5G infrastructure.

In a briefing following talks with Cabinet ministers, one official said it would "be nothing less than madness to allow Huawei to get into next generation tele- communication networks and vacuum up personal data".

"The government continues to consider its position on high risk vendors and a decision will be made in due course".
