More news: England captain Joe Root misses training in South Africa through illness

Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen across much of England and Wales during Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing gusts of up to 40 to 50mph inland.

Strong winds are likely to affect roads and train lines, while heavy and persistent rain can provoke fast flowing or deep floodwater that can cause a danger to life. Inland gusts of 45-55 miles per hour are more likely.

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

Across the country, the Met Office said winds may reach 60mph or 70mph in exposed coastal and hilly areas.
