Hope fades for missing S. Korean, Nepali trekkers”

Weather and continued avalanches also interfered Sunday with search efforts of the Trekking Agents' Association of Nepal, according to Reuters, and a representative from a rescue company told Reuters that a helicopter was not able to determine where the South Koreans and their guides disappeared.

Rescuers in Nepal have reportedly secured two spots in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas where four missing South Koreans are possibly located.

Officials said the still-missing travelers were caught Friday morning when an avalanche sparked by heavy snowfall slammed trails on the Annapurna Circuit Trek, where tourism companies advertise multiweek journeys through stunning scenery. "We are working on over how we can work over it", Department of Tourism Official Mira Acharya said.

"Our team reached the area but could not proceed with their search because of more avalanches".

"It is hard for people to go".

Guesthouses and the trekking route were blanketed in a thick layer of snow. "There was continuous and heavy snowfall and the area which was at first hit by an avalanche is continuously hit by snow slides because of which our team was not able to work on the search operation", Acharya, Director of Mountaineering, Hotel and Monitoring Section of Department of Tourism, Nepal stated.

"It has been so many days, so it is hard to hope for survival".

Special Nepalese army and government rescue personnel have since been searching for the South Korean trekkers and their three Nepali guides.

Local official Him Bahadur Gurung said that nearly 15 feet (4.5 meters) of fresh snow had accumulated in the area. Others have descended safely.

Six of the missing were part of the same expedition, while one Nepali porter was escorting a different group. Authorities described the South Koreans still missing as two women and two men, all teachers, who were in Nepal to volunteer, according to South Korean news media. "As they were heading back, the avalanche hit", Sherpa said on Saturday.

Thousands of hikers visit Nepal every year for its breathtaking view of the Himalayas and the routes lined with picturesque villages.

A snowstorm killed about 40 people on the Annapurna circuit in 2014, in one of the biggest trekking tragedies in Nepal.
