GM reviving Hummer brand with 1,000-horsepower electric truck”

The automaker confirmed Thursday plans to produce an all-electric Hummer with 1,000 horsepower and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds. Hands up who saw that coming. Promising a "Quiet Revolution", the new GMC truck will pair the classic name with an all-new electric drivetrain that will have enough power to take on the Tesla Cybertruck. After rumors surfaced mid a year ago, General Motors has finally confirmed the nameplate-best known for its gas-guzzling SUV-will launch a new all-electric "super truck". It seems more than sufficient to warrant GMC's description of the vehicle as an "all-electric super truck". The teaser shots show a grille that recalls old Hummer vehicles, though the look is updated with flashy lights. This arrangement allows GM to capitalize on Hummer's brand awareness, and the public's understanding that it means rugged, capable trucks, without building out a new dealer network.

According to GM, the GMC Hummer EV will be available starting in Fall 2021.

Hummer is back! With the electric truck scene heating up in the US, General Motors has decided that it's the right time to revive its macho truck brand and turn it into an EV. The Cruise Origin, the electric self-driving shuttle designed for ridesharing, will be the second vehicle to go into production at the Detroit area plant.

In 1992 it released the first Hummer - the H1 - as a civilian version of the military Humvee.

"I don't know that the people who bought Hummers 15 years ago would necessarily be turned off by the fact that it's electric", he said.

The vehicle will be revealed on May 20, 2020 and built at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant.

The Hummer brand was discontinued in 2010, owing to a plummet in sales driven by higher fuel prices.
