WeWork names real estate veteran Sandeep Mathrani its new ceo”

Minson and Gunningham will remain with the company through a transition period to ensure a smooth onboarding process, WeWork said.

Sandeep Mathrani had served as Brookfield Property Retail's CEO since August 2018, according to his LinkedIn page. They announced in early December a year ago that Mathrani would be leaving and that his last working day would be January 31, 2020.

A WeWork work space. "He is a proven leader with turnaround expertise in the real estate industry, and we are thrilled to welcome him to WeWork".

"Over the past 100 days since I joined WeWork, we have made tremendous progress strengthening the business", Claure said in a statement. WeWork is planning to announce new board members and a new chief financial officer, chief marketing officer and chief communications officer soon, people familiar with the searches said.

Mathrani says, "I am grateful for the confidence Marcelo and the Board have placed in me and look forward to partnering with Marcelo and the very talented employees at WeWork".

He was the CEO of General Growth Properties for eight years earlier than participating in the Chicago-based company.

His presence signals WeWork will focus on bread-and-butter office leasing, as opposed to the Neumann-era positioning as a consciousness-elevating tech company.that also runs a school for some reason.

Mr. Mathrani, previously chief executive of Brookfield Property Partners' retail group, replaces Artie Minson and Sebastian Gunningham, who have served as co-CEOs of We Co. since Mr. Neumann stepped down in September. WeWork also postponed its IPO and saw a steep decline in valuation to under $8 billion. Claure is part of SoftBank Group Corp, which spent billions of dollars to bail out WeWork in October.

Introduced as one of the stars of the sharing economy, WeWork struggled to reorganise as losses mounted in 2019.

Since then, SoftBank has worked on a five-year business plan that it expects will get the company to profitability. WeWork would benefit if its customers stayed in locations for longer.

Since then, SoftBank had been searching for an ideal person who could fix the business and tarnished image of WeWork, helping the company cut down its losses and eventually go public.
