'Hamilton' by original cast coming to a film screen near you”

Lin-Manuel Miranda tells his story with through hip-hop, rap and a fast-paced show that also tugs at the heartstrings. The Walt Disney Company said Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, it will distribute a live capture of Lin-Manuel Miranda's show in the United States and Canada on October 15, 2021.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also stars in "Hamilton", said the film would be a live performance of show at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre that comprised the original cast.

You can see "Hamilton" the musical through February 9, 2020 at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, presented by Broadway Grand Rapids.

We've wondered for a while when Lin-Manuel Miranda might finally announce that the film of the original Hamilton Broadway cast performing the show would make it into cinemas.

The movie version isn't an adaptation in the vein of Miranda's upcoming "In the Heights", but rather a "live capture" of a stage performance. It's not an adaptation: It's a previously recorded "live capture" of the stage performance from the Richard Rodgers Theatre in NY, where it first began. The film will be released by Disney and will feature the original Broadway cast for the optimal viewing experience.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company is 'thrilled to have the opportunity to share this same Broadway experience with millions of people around the world.' Deadline claims that this involvement includes a $75 million deal for the worldwide rights to the movie, which is more than two hours long.

"I'm so proud of what [director] Tommy Kail has been able to capture in this filmed version of Hamilton - a live theatrical experience that feels just as immediate in your local movie theater", he added. "We're excited to partner with Disney to bring the original Broadway company of Hamilton to the largest audience possible".

His hugely successful play Hamilton debuted on August 6, 2015 and has gone on win 11 Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2016.
