Reports of anti-Chinese opinions in the Philippines on the coronavirus”

He stated: "Instead of racist attacks by some quarters, we should commend the China government's transparency, for their remarkable political will, and their enormous sacrifices of imposing a lockdown on Wuhan City, and its neighbors which involve millions of people".

"To say we put them in contagion's way is to say we are sending them to their deaths when it is to productive lives they can not have in our lousy country", he said.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Duterte extended the ban's coverage upon recommendation of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

She also noted that the order came out following the outrage in social media of many Filipinos who were calling for Duterte's ouster from the presidency, and expressing their dismay over the government's handling of the dreaded virus.

He also frowned upon calls for Chinese to return to their homeland.

"You know it is not only a case of bad taste but it is not good for us Filipinos to be saying that". It happened in China, at least the first. But that is not the fault of anybody.

"Labor Secretary Law Chi-Kwong made strong representations for the Philippine government to allow Filipinos to return to Hong Kong", Tejada said. Almost 300,000 Filipinos are in China, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

"We need to beef up and support our frontline health personnel, procure facilities for testing and monitoring, build effective isolation structures, and distribute enough supplies such as face masks to the general public", Brosas said.

"But even if there are none, we are a community of nations".

"If there are Chinese found positive and we don't want them to travel to further aggravate the situation, we can assure the Chinese government, that we too will help".

A few moments after the temporary travel ban was extended, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed a second case of nCoV, a 44-year-old Chinese man who died on February 1.

The DFA chief said Duterte assured him that "he will do something" about the temporary ban that was imposed last Sunday by Malacañang for those coming from China and its special administrative regions (SARs) including Hong Kong and Macau.

The ban also bars Filipinos - including those who work overseas - from going to China, Hong Kong and Macau.

They have also suspended the visitation privileges of the families of the more than 800 individuals who are undergoing drug rehabilitation process in the center. "We can not act on our own", Duterte said.

Manila: The Philippines says it will provide assistance to migrant workers affected by the government restriction on travel to China due to the coronavirus.
