Shelter dog beer can campaign helps reunite missing dog with owner”

"Knocking me over just to get out the door".

MotorWorks, a brewery in Bradenton, partnered with Manatee County Animal Services to begin printing adoptable pets on beer cans to raise awareness about animal adoption and one of the first dog's they printed was a pup named "Day-Day".

According to ABC News, Monica Mathis came across a picture of the cans and noticed an uncanny similarity between one of the featured rescues and her dog Hazel, who disappeared after slipping her leash at her home in Iowa three years ago.

A number of breweries have done an impressive job setting themselves apart with their labeling; Clown Shoes has some fantastic art on every bottle, Narragansett achieved some serious old-school cool with the throwback cans featured in Jaws, and Flying Dog managed to recruit Ralph Fucking Steadman to do some drawings for them.

"'Oh my gosh that looks like my dog, I think that's my dog, '" Mathis told KSTP of her reaction.

The story took off on social media, too, eventually catching the eye of Mathis in Minnesota.

"I sent everything I could find - all the pictures so I could stop an adoption process from happening because I could've lost her again", Mathis said.

Mathis says "Day-Day" is really Hazel.

Mathis said she and Hazel will be reunited in time to celebrate Hazel's 7th birthday. She searched, called shelters, but never found the dog.

The shelter confirmed that Day Day is Hazel. "An emotional wreck", Mathis told KSTP of her shaggy dog story with a happy ending.

"I was amazed, I was crying".

"This dog was such an important part of her family that she had everything to prove she was her owner", Wohlgefahrt said.

"She contacted us directly so we put her in touch with some of our officers. It's a great reminder to people when they do these things to go into their profile and make sure all their contact information is up to date".

Friends of Manatee County Animal Services (FoMCAS), a non-profit that helps fundraise for MCAS and their animals, is covering all the transportation costs required to safely drive DayDay/Hazel from Florida to Minnesota in the coming week.
