YouTube reveals its ad revenues for the first time”

The information services provider reported $10.12 EPS for the quarter, missing analysts' consensus estimates of $12.42 by ($2.30).

Revenue, excluding payments to partners, was US$37.6 billion in the fourth quarter, less than analysts' projections of US$38.4 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Alphabet's "other bets" segment reported a $2.03 billion operating loss on revenue of only $172 million. Revenue increased 23%/year-over-year basis to $136.8 billion and up 22% for the fourth-quarter to $39.3 billion. Also, CAO Amie Thuener O'toole sold 55 shares of the firm's stock in a transaction on Tuesday, December 3rd.

Google's other revenue - including hardware, play store, and non-advertising YouTube revenue - was $ 5.26 billion, compared to $ 4.77 billion in the year-ago quarter (now without the cloud).

Q1 '20 revenue minus TAC (analyst forecast): $35.27 billion.

Shares of the company fell about 3% in extended trading to $1,435.10.

Since acquiring YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006, Google has closely guarded how much the internet's biggest video site contributes to its massive ad business.

Shares of Alphabet stock traded down $20.19 during trading hours on Friday, hitting $1,434.06. The Google LLC parent said it earned a profit of $10.67 billion, or $15.35 a share, in its fourth quarter. 4Q19 revenue is projected to be $6.4 billion higher than the $40.5 billion posted in the last quarter.

"Our investments in deep computer science, including artificial intelligence, ambient computing and cloud computing, provide a strong base for continued growth and new opportunities across Alphabet", said Pichai. It's worth noting that Amazon's comparable cloud figures are more focused on infrastructure than Google's, which includes SaaS revenue as well.

On Monday, Pichai's new role brought with it changes to Alphabet's financial disclosures, which investors before generally criticized as too opaque to understand how it is weathering specific challenges.

Several research analysts have weighed in on the company. Its YouTube subsidiary past year paid a 170 million settlement to the Federal Trade Commission over claims that it violated child privacy legislation. It came to $15.1 billion for the full year 2019, up 36% from 2018. Amazon, Apple Inc. and Facebook Inc. all face their own investigations as well.
