China coronavirus outbreak: All the latest updates

China coronavirus outbreak: All the latest updates”

It has since emerged that a Belgian woman who was on Sunday's flight tested positive for the virus.

The viral outbreak has infected more than 24,500 people globally.

In Russia, two military planes with a total of 144 people - Russians and nationals of Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia - landed in Tyumen on Wednesday.

"Please don't go out, don't go out, don't go out!" blared a message on a loudspeaker urging people to wear masks, wash their hands regularly and report any people who are from Hubei - a common fear in other parts of the country that people from the province might infect others.

Central China's Hubei Province reported 3,156 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 65 new deaths on Tuesday, local health authorities said Wednesday.

Most of the passengers will be taken by bus to a military facility where they will be held in quarantine for two weeks. It was badly hit by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), a coronavirus that emerged from China in 2002, killed nearly 800 people worldwide and cost the global economy an estimated $33 billion.

The epidemic has prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global health emergency, several governments to institute travel restrictions, and airlines to suspend flights to and from China.

Outside mainland China, at least 180 cases have been confirmed, including two fatalities, one in Hong Kong and another in the Philippines.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office will charter another civilian aircraft to help British nationals and their dependants leave Wuhan for the UK.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said he hoped China would accept an offer from the United States and the WHO to send epidemiological experts to China.

"That doesn't mean that it won't get worse".

"We're not threatening the government, we just want to prevent the outbreak", said Cheng, 26, a nurse on strike.

Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand all reported new infections not imported from China on Tuesday.

The woman had been in contact with relatives who were reportedly diagnosed with coronavirus after returning from Wuhan, which is considered the virus epicenter.

He said the spike in China's recent caseload is partly because the tally was expanded to milder cases, not only people with pneumonia.
