Clint Capela, Robert Covington part of four-team trade

Clint Capela, Robert Covington part of four-team trade”

After days of rumors, the Houston Rockets finally reached a deal to move center Clint Capela.

In news that broke late Tuesday night, the Houston Rockets agreed to acquire forward Robert Covington and reserve big man Jordan Bell from the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with a second-round draft pick. Malik Beasley, Juan Hernangomez and Jarred Vanderbilt will come to the Wolves from Denver, and Evan Turner from Atlanta as part of the deal, according to reports.

For Minnesota, those potential draft assets could be useful in talks with Golden State on a Russell trade or elsewhere in deals at the trade deadline or in the offseason.

Gerald Green was traded to the Nuggets in exchange for a future first-round pick. In 48 games this season for the Wolves, Covington is averaging 12.8 points per game, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists, shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three.

For the Rockets, Covington gives them another 3-and-D player as they further lean into their small-ball style.

The Hawks, who were in the market for a center, get Capela to put into pick-and-rolls with Trae Young, a priority for them.

The first big trade of the National Basketball Association trade deadline just went down.

Capela has played in 39 games this season for the Rockets and averaged 13.9 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
