Ousmane Dembele striker suffers from a setback

Ousmane Dembele striker suffers from a setback”

This was a recurrence of the problem that had kept Dembele out of action since November and whilst Los Cules haven't offered a timetable for his recovery, the medical prognosis suggests that he will be absent for several months.

"Tests carried out on Tuesday on Ousmane Dembele have shown that the player has a complete proximal hamstring tear in his right thigh", the club announced. It is reported that the French worldwide has so far missed a total of 63 games for the Catalans due to injury issues.

The 22-year-old has not played since November 27 when he hobbled off in tears in the first half of the 3-1 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund. He had just recently rejoined his teammates in full practices. The Frenchman's injury marks a hard period for Barcelona as Setien is already without his star striker Luis Suarez. Abel Ruiz will spend the rest of the season at Braga and then complete an €8m (A$13m) transfer there. It clearly puts an end to his campaign this season.

Dembele's latest setback, meanwhile, could not come at a worse time for Barcelona.

"I'm sure he will give us a lot with the potential he has and will demonstrate the great player he is".

They can only sign a player who is playing in Spain or who is now unemployed, and whoever they sign will not be able to play in the Champions League.

The French forward left team practice on Monday complaining of muscle pain in his right leg.

Regardless of their next move, Barca will be at a significant disadvantage as they seek to retain their LaLiga title and push on in the latter stages of the Champions League.
