Hawks reportedly interested in Cavaliers' Thompson

Hawks reportedly interested in Cavaliers' Thompson”

As the National Basketball Association trade deadline nears on February 6, the Clippers have assets that could be worthy in a possible trade.

LA is in need of some perimeter shooting and wing help and they have reportedly "kicked the tires" on Cleveland's Kevin Love ahead of Thursday's National Basketball Association trade deadline. Starting center Ivica Zubac (8.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks in 17.8 minutes over 50 games) has been a solid contributor for the Clippers and Montrezl Harrell (19.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 28.6 minutes over 49 games) is a potential Sixth Man of the Year victor but he lacks size.

"The Clippers have kicked the tires on Kevin Love and could grab disgruntled Kings center Dewayne Dedmon, but neither are preferred options", Mannix wrote.

The major roadblock in any deal involving Love to LA would, of course, be his contract.

In November, The Athletic reported that both Love and Thompson, the franchise's longest-tenured, most highly decorated vets and the last two remaining from the 2016 championship team, would welcome being traded to a contender.

Thompson is having a career year, averaging 11.9 points and 10.4 rebounds.

Thompson is in the final season of a five-year, $82 million contract he signed as a restricted free agent in 2015. Considering the Clippers would really only need him for rebounding, Thompson fits that bill. With the deadline on Thursday, they are exploring ways to improve their team including inquiring about Kevin Love. The Cavaliers will nearly certainly have to wait until the summer to resume the search for a trade partner willing to absorb that sort of financial commitment when Love is 31 and regarded in some corners as injury-prone.

With all of this said, a deal for Love is unlikely. "It could be the same thing for a few guys here". We'll let the chips fall, I've been saying that.
