The 15th USA case of coronavirus is an evacuee in Texas

China reported a massive surge in coronavirus deaths and infections in Hubei province Wednesday-but that didn't mean the disease now known as COVID-19 had become much deadlier overnight.

Whilst the number of new Coronavirus cases had increased this week, the doctors in the centre of the outbreak in Hubei province, China have started using a broader definition to diagnose people, causing a jump of nearly 15,000.

Experts believe the true scope of the outbreak could be higher.

Other states with confirmed cases include Arizona, California, Illinois, Washington and Wisconsin, with all but two cases linked to travel to Wuhan, China.

One case has been reported in MA. The infection was confirmed through a Wednesday night lab test. China has now reported 1,368 deaths from the viral disease and close to 60,000 infections.

Share values on Asian financial markets fell on Thursday after the dramatic spike in the number of coronavirus deaths and cases in mainland China, with traders concerned about the economic impact of the epidemic.

Japan announces first death from the novel coronavirus, hours after confirming 44 more cases on a cruise ship quarantined near Tokyo.

Reuters reported Thursday that "elderly passengers on the Diamond Princess who have pre-existing conditions or are in windowless rooms would be allowed to leave starting from Friday, rather than the originally targeted date of February 19". Local officials' concealment of the outbreak's severity and silencing of those who spoke up about it, including a doctor who later died from COVID-19, has sparked fury and demand for accountability across China.

According to the World Health Organization, at least 441 cases have been confirmed in 24 other countries.

"We have to be ready for this pathogen which could go around the world", he said. "We need to come together to fight a common enemy that does not respect borders, ensure that we have the resources necessary to bring this outbreak to an end and bring our best science to the forefront to find shared answers to shared problems".
